Iconic American R&B singer Little Willie John, born William Edward John (November 15, 1937 - May 26, 1968) was a seminal figure in early R&B music, and is today recognized as the creator of what came to be known as “Soul” music.
Dorothy Dandridge was a woman who loved singing from her soul. She made us Take a Chance on Love and let’s face it, we all had A Crush on her when she sang Smooth Operator. On screen and off, she had us charmed with her timeless voice and breathtaking beauty, giving us the Smile of An Angel. Dorothy Dandridge, we remember your rhythm(tm)!

The funeral for The Platters legend Herb Reed is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, 2012. The following details were sent out:
Members of the international, national and local music communities will join Reed’s music family and friends to celebrate the life of the last remaining member of the historically significant quintet. The Reverend Dr. Regina Shearer, vice-president of Academic Affairs at Rivier College and former member of Herb Reed’s Platters from 1969-1983, will officiate, and nationally renowned preacher Bishop Robert G. Brown will deliver the eulogy. Bishop Brown knew Reed well in the late ’60s, ’70s and early ’80s when the Bishop was the co-owner of the RISE Club in Cambridge where the Bishop also sang/played bass with the Indigos.
The Berklee School of Music’s Gospel Choir and its Gospel group The Worshippers will be performing under the direction of Dennis Montgomery during the service. Herb Reed’s Platters, the only group in the world allowed to perform under the name and continue the legacy created by Reed, will perform a special music tribute.
The United States Army also will present Reed with full military honors as he was a veteran of the Korean War. Jon Bauman, more commonly known as “Bowzer” from the popular ’50s and ’60s music group Sha Na Na, is among those scheduled to deliver remarks at the funeral as is Terry Stewart, president of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
